どのようにキャラクターたちを3Dとして、実在するものとして造るのでしょうか？
テキストの有無によってその作り方はどう変わるのでしょうか？

日々の繰り返しの中でキャラクターは育ち、その過程にはこうすればよいという定石はありません。

このワークショップでは絵画やミュージックがどうその製作に影響を与え、新しいストーリーを生み出すことに役立つのかを学びます。
キャラクターを造る時、通常はテキストからおこしますが、もしテキストが無い場合、またそのキャラクターについてほんの少ししか記述がない場合どうするのでしょうか？
ワークショップの中で、テキストからキャラクターをおこすことと、状況や関係性の中からインプロを通して造ることのどちらもカバーします。
キャラクターに関わりのある、またない状況からインプロすることはパフォーマーに、そのキャラクターをどのようなシチュエーションにおいても生きたものにするためのアイディアのプールをもたらします。

主にキャラクターたちを、その動きを通して発見してゆきます。

もしキャラクターたちを本当に巧く作れた時は、セリフを用いずとも彼らがどういった人たちなのか、観客に伝わるでしょう。

1. Personage: Emotions, Behavior and the creation of Characters.

【A continuation of the previous workshops in play and mask held in 2015】

How can we create vivid three dimensional characters?

What is the process for this with or without an established text?

The development of a character is something which occurs over time, and there is no real set approach for doing so.

This workshop shows you how many stimuli, including paintings and music, can help building interesting characters out of which new stories can grow.

Character work is often stimulated by text: But what happens when you don’t have a set text or when characters in the text have very little to say?

This workshop will attempt to address both creating a character from text and one from improvised actions, situations and relationships in order to unearth who the characters are and where they belong in the world.

Improvisations away from, and around the character will provide the reservoir of
ideas which an actor can call on to bring a character alive in any situation.

We will explore characters primarily through the way they move.

If a character is really working they can be received and understood by an audience without the need for spoken text.

2. The use of Sticks in Actor Training

Sticks have been used to train performers in various cultures in both traditional and contemporary theatre-
By the traditional Peking Opera, Eugenio Barba’s Odin Teatret, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Jerzy Grotowski Complicite theatre company and Peter Brook’s International Centre for Theatre Research in Paris.

This workshop is an exploration of varieties of stick work proposed by James Sutherland and supported with live percussion by Shoichi Ayada.

Great for Teachers, Directors, Actors and Dancers, this workshop is an exploration of varieties of stick work that can be used as warm ups, training and rehearsals alone or in groups.

あなたが人に伝えたいと思う物語に出会った時、どのように最も重要な部分だけ抜き出しますか？
このワークショップでは物語をどう伝えるのか考案する為の実践的な方法を学びます（Devising）。

仏教とスーフィー教の短い説話を題材にして、人形と物を操ることを行います。

「人形」と「物を操ること/Object Manipulation 」(実際に作ることから行います)
人形は演出家にとって舞台上で使われるボキャブラリーを増やすのにとても役立つものとして広く知られています。
人形に使われる物語を伝える為の動きには、高い技術を要求されます。しかしそれらはより幅広い空間の使い方や、言葉以外でのパフォーマー間の会話を可能にします。そのパフォーマーたちの努力は作品をより豊かにします。

ワークショップの中でパフォーマーと人形/物の関係性がどれだけダイナミックで、楽しく繊細なものであるかを、人形を操る上でのルールを学びながら探ります。

またそれらのルールがパフォーマーの動きを制限するものなのか、あるいは新たな一面を発見する助けになるのかを模索します。

このワークショップは実践的な人形の操作を通して、技術的なスキルとあなた自身の想像力を一つにつなげます。

このワークショップは前回のCITA/Maskワークショップやキャラクターワークショップと一貫性のあるものです。

3. The puppet and the performer: puppetry and object manipulation with zen and Sufi parables.

【Taught by CITA associate director Tatsuya Yasumoto】
When you’ve found the story you want to tell, how do you break it down to its most essential parts? This workshop offers practical insight to a range of approaches to devising theatre from stories.
We will be focusing on Zen and Sufi parables and will include puppet building and manipulation.

Puppetry and manipulation (including building and manipulation)

Puppetry for directors is increasingly an accepted and accessible piece of theatrical vocabulary. The principles of movement and storytelling a puppeteer uses can be very technical; however, they can also touch on a wider approach to space, movement and the non-verbal communication between performers on a stage, which can enrich the work of all theatre practices through their application.

We will explore the dynamic relationship between the performer and the puppet, finding how playful and delicate this can be and testing the accepted rules of puppet manipulation.

We’ll also ask whether performing with a puppet restricts the natural flow of the actors body, or whether it can be a vehicle for discovering new facets of that body on stage.

The workshop will combine technical skill and imaginative creation for performance, through working practically with puppets.
